The Easy Life

Class is over. I just need to do my summative test for a final and turn it in by next Friday at 12:00 p.m. This means I can knit from dawn til dusk. My nephew is having a baby so I am currently knitting a kimono in Peaches and Creme cotton in a cream color and I'll put green ribbons on it for the ties. It is going so fast that I am tempted to make one for every day of the week in a variety of colors. However, I have pledged to complete my unfinished projects before I buy more yarn. I've been really good this summer and have been using yarn from the stash. Thus the reason for all the baby items because I seem to have more baby yarn than any thing else. I still have a rug to crochet, a vest to finish, 2 and 1/2 socks, and a baby sweater and the afore mentioned kimono. Yippee! If it would only rain, I'd watch old movies, drink diet coke, sit in my pajamas and knit to my heart's content.

For Love of a Good Book

I have been blessed this summer with the time to read for pleasure once again. In my former job, I was always so tired I would just crawl into bed without turning on the light and my reading took a back seat. Today I finished 2 books-one nonfiction and one fiction. The nonfiction one, a true crime!, received an A and the fiction one a C. Something about Christianity thrown into a light chick lit book just doesn't do it for me. I almost put it down when I saw the subthread, but decided to give it a chance. Needless to say, it was not a memorable book, but I did finish it. I pickedup Oprah's book for the summer that was waiting for me at the local library and look forward to beginning it after dinner. I still have the 8th Janet Evanovich book to read, and 2 others waiting on the stereo cabinet. I know everyone else is devouring JE's thirteenth book this summer, but I can only read about one every summer and I didn't discover her until about 8 years ago. I usually read a classic during summer break, but I haven't started one yet. Maybe I'll read a Jane Austen book or Middlemarch, or Death in a Family. Whatever strikes my fancy, I'll pickup. We have a camping trip planned in late July and I usually get a lot of reading done then if we don't go with other people. Hurray for summer reading!

Old Friends

Is there any thing better than a favorite old t-shirt? I have one that is 16 years old. It's purple, which is probably the only purple thing I own. It's from University of N. Iowa. I decided I needed to buy a remembrance of my college days in Iowa before we moved. I went to the book store and purchased the shirt, never suspecting I'd be wearing it to paint in, sleep in and lounge in all these years later. It's kind of like comfort food. It's 100% cotton that gets softer with each wash. It's big enough that it doesn't bind and goes great with any pattern of lounge pants. I have one other shirt that is just as comforting, if not more. It's from 1994 and says so on the shirt. I try not to wear it in public, but when I'm staying in, it's the best. It's gray and I got it while I was taking the Greater Kansas City Writing Workshop at UMKC. The front says "Writing to the Beat of a Different Drummer" and the back says GKCWW 1994. I have noticed several pinpoint holes, but I'm keeping it until it won't stay on any longer. Jim has an old Navy shirt from 1999 and refuses to give it up. It's kind of cool to think that we are wearing clothes from the last century! Hurray for comfort shirts!

Perfect Sunday Mornings

Is there any thing more glorious than a quiet Sunday morning on the deck with a cool breeze blowing, a hot cup of coffee (with or without Bailey's)? I love the idea of the entire day ahead of me, no commitments, free to pick and choose my activities. Will it be a day of reading? A day to watch old movies? A day of home made personal care-facial, pedicure, manicure etc?a Maybe I'll bake, knit, clean closets, do laundry, paint woodwork, change doorknobs-I'll do whatever strikes me at the moment. Maybe I'll do a bit of all of it!
